Black History Month 2025: The Recap.

Black History Month is my FAVORITE month of the year. No… it’s not just because I’m Black. That might actually be a lie … I LOVE being Black. BUT… February is also my favorite month because I LOVE learning about the life and history of people that I admire. (Spoiler Alert: I’m a nerd and not ashamed of it).

My Roommates.

I went to my son’s Black History Month program and truly enjoyed each and every presentation. The kids were mini wax figures full of facts that you had to press a button to activate. Each child beamed with pride as they stood in front of their bright colorful tri-fold boards that included all of their creativity. The mamas (… and in DJ’s case: Dads and Grandmas) clearly bought all the art supplies the neighborhood had to offer. Fret not … I made sure everybody got their money’s worth. DJ did incredible! We were so proud of him. He rehearsed his speech daily with his dad. Unsurprisingly, he was in full character! (NOTE: He did not approve his speech or project being posted on this blog so you won’t be seeing it here, either. LMAO! Sorry.) He did decide to leave this quote instead:

“Equal rights… Equal fights!”

-DJ

He represented on HBCU Day though.

Anyway… despite the fact that I may or may not be raising my 2nd biggest hater…. I intensely listened to each child tell me about their person. I learned so much from an incredible group of 4th graders. I was honored to hear them spit facts with so much pride. Since the “adult version” of outside is currently WEIRD…it was truly the perfect ending to a very tumultuous month. Kudos to every parent, teacher or family member that assisted with the projects. If nobody else told you, I LOVED ALL OF THEM.

Kids beaming with pride will always tug at my heartstrings. The kid that walked up to me and called me “swaggy” won the day, though. Donte (the Dad)… my 1st well-known hater and roommate… had to “escort” me out of the gymnasium so the other elementary school kids could actually enjoy the Wax Museum without me in their way. I pressed all the buttons before I left, though.

Art & Culture.

Black History Month (and every month before and after it…) is always full of Art and Culture for me. Here were some of my other favorite Black History Moments of 2025:

  1. I got Baptized…. & I definitely needed that re-dip.
  2. I saw a LIVE Kirk Franklin concert just because I happened to make it to church on time. I love music, the sermon was timely, and my Mom came to church with me.
  3. THE FASHION GIRLS! All of the Fashion girls gave me life and eased my anxiety time and time and time again. Every award show! Every Fashion show! Everybody! They showed up and showed out.
  4. Beyonce FINALLY won Album of the YEAR at the Grammy Awards! I’m not going to even bother getting on how much she DESERVED to win… but Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter… definitely a highlight of the Month for me.
  5. KENDRICK LAMAR. If you know me…. You know that Super Bowl Halftime Show was perfection. I’m not debating with anybody about it. Take your grievances to the Lord.
  6. The Magazines have been TOP TIER this month. Call me a true Millenial… but I still love Magazines. I buy them and read them, religiously. This month’s issues of all of my favorites were everything that I needed them to be PLUS more. I can only hope that this blog will touch people the way so many editors of all of my FAVORITE Magazines have touched me this month.
  7. No. I’m done. See the Rest of the fun here.

Good Reads.

Read a book, Gift a book. I’m currently reading Power Moves by Sarah Jakes Roberts.

I went to Woman Evolve in 2024 and told every woman I knew about it, before I got there and after I came back. Woman Evolve came on the heels of my most recent anxiety attack. I won’t bore you with the details, but it was a life changing experience for me. Nobody that knows me is surprised that I am reading this book. I, however, am surprised that I was living the experiences BEFORE I started reading the book. Lordt. If you don’t learn anything else from this blog post… just start the book when you get it. Save yourself the life lessons! (Trust me… not worth it.)

My 40-Day fast officially ends tomorrow. I’m not even looking forward to a glass of wine, whiskey, a snicker bar or any of the other things I gave up. Don’t be absurd. That does NOT mean I will never partake again. (I might have a Snicker at 7am tomorrow.) But… I will always remember this experience.   With God all things are possible. Even the things you never imagined.

How did your month go? (…only the Good parts…. we don’t need any bad news over here).
