HBCU Homecoming Season… 1st up HU!

There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, like being a Howard Alum in Washington, D.C. I can’t wait to see my law school classmates and celebrate being on the other side of the law school hustle and insanity.

HBCU Homecoming Howard Homecoming

After I leave Howard’s Homecoming, I’m headed to Tallahassee for FAMU’s Homecoming too. It has been a truly insane year. I can’t wait to wash my self in peace & culture! Being connected to two HBCUs … at a time such as this… is truly a blessing. I decided LAST YEAR to take a step back from life, politics, and my non-stop review of discrimination issues to come back to the places that educated me and poured into me. I want to be around the people that understand me more than most … because we all have been through the unthinkable together. I know I’ll come back much better, and recharged to continue the work that I was trained to do, and have excelled at for the past 20 years.

This is why HBCUs are important. This is why HBCUs matter. We are our grandparents wildest dreams and evidence of the hardwork that our parents put in to expose us to higher… while making sure we stayed connected to who we are as a culture. We are millennials & generations before, who did all the things, checked all the boxes and realized that whole “be twice as good” thing … though still true… came with trauma that we have collectively decided not to pass down to our children. Gen Z is about to take that to the moon! 🙌🏾 (…but I told myself I’m going to make it out of this post without getting on my soapbox 🙄…)

My cousin, who I used to babysit, spoke too much truth last night when she said “You HATE to be Seen…” and I do. LOL. But this time … i’m bring you with me. So get ready for the HBCU Homecoming Tour. Let’s start with a quick story time on how the “fashionista” you all know today… started this journey at FAMU and ended it at Howard Law.
